This is a hollowed piece of Gambel Oak. It is an old branch collar, where the original branch long ago died out leaving the twisted grains and healed scars behind. Likely a hole in the old tree of this size housed various forest creature over time. The story of the wood continues in this piece. It is about 10 inches in diameter.
